In 2007, the Georgia Department of Education revised the requirements for obtaining a high school diploma from Georgia public high schools. The new requirements pertain only to students who enter ninth grade for the first time in the 2008-2009 and subsequent school years. This means that students who enrolled in the ninth grade for the first time during the 2002-2003 through the 2007-2008 school years are under a different set of graduation requirements.
