Georgia Autism and Technical Assistance Program (GATTAP)

The goal of GATTAP is to provide FREE regional training to teachers/therapists who work with students with autism, providing them an opportunity to meet with and learn from job-alike peers. Sessions are organized by topic; information each day will cover elementary and secondary, classic and high functioning autism. Participants are welcome to attend one or both days of the Fall and Winter sessions as needed. Districts are responsible for travel and substitutes, as needed. Much will be learned from the free internet modules, even more from discussions and shared resources!

FALL GATTAP – 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Day 1: Thursday, September 28, 2017

WORKING EFFECTIVELY WITH PARAPROFESSIONALS TO MAXIMIZE SUPPORTS FOR STUDENTS

Addressing issues such as data collection, communication with parents, academic and social supports.

This session is not for paraprofessionals to attend, but instead for the teachers who supervise them.

Autism Internet Modules:  Rules and Routines or Visual Schedules Modules

Day 2:  Friday, September 29, 2017

RECOGNIZING COGNITIVE DIFFERENCES IN STUDENTS WITH AUTISM  - and -
EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING   (two topics)

Autism Internet Module:  Cognitive Differences

WINTER GATTAP - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Day 3:  Thursday, January 25, 2018

WORKING WITH HIGH FUNCTIONING STUDENTS WITH AUTISM  - and -  SELF-MONITORING

AFIRM Module:   Self-Management

This might be a good opportunity to ask a student with autism to speak to the group about strategies that work for her/him.

Day 4:  Friday, January 26, 2018

PARTNERING WITH PARENTS OF STUDENTS WITH AUTISM
Addressing issues such as communication, IEP development, ABA, data collection, social skills development, behavior supports. This will be a great opportunity to hear from a parent mentor!

Autism Internet Modules:  Supporting Successful Completion of Homework or Parent-Implemented Intervention

Expectations of Participants

  • View designated internet modules – come with post-test as proof!
  • Participate actively in the meeting. Share activities, forms, resources that work.
  • Apply a new strategy in the classroom and submit a reflection of how it worked.
  • Redeliver information to teachers/therapists in your district.
  • Network with participants: Whenever possible, observe in classrooms where strategies are being implemented with fidelity. It is important to visualize how strategies, behavior plans, data collection, and classroom structure work – at the beginning of the day, during transitions, at the end of the day.

Seat Hour Verification

Participants must bring the internet module post-tests as their ticket into the sessions - 2 seat hours each.  They must attend the session - 6 seat hours per session.  After attending the session participants must use one of the strategies that they learned in the meeting and send the facilitator a reflection of how the strategy was implemented in a classroom or with a student they serve - 2 seat hours. Participants can therefore earn 10 seat hours for each day that they attend and fully participate in the GATTAP.  Participants can receive 2 additional seat hour credits for each additional module over the 2 for which they (1) bring a post-test, (2) share key points with the group, and (3) provide evidence of how they use strategies in the classroom.
