State Board of Education Changes Meeting Schedule

MEDIA CONTACT: GaDOE Communications office, (404) 651-7358, mcardoza@gadoe.org      May 29, 2009  -- As a cost-saving measure, the State Board of Education has changed their monthly meeting agenda, effective with the June meeting (June 10 & 11).    "This new schedule will still provide the necessary amount of time to thoroughly discuss the important education issues in Georgia, but allows us to reduce the amount of money spent on hotels and travel costs for State Board members," said State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox. "This is just one of many steps we are taking to reduce overall costs at the GaDOE and help our state and our school systems make it through this difficult economic time."    It is estimated that this new schedule will save about $1,000 per month on board member travel costs.    NEW SCHEDULE:    Wednesday  12:00 noon - 2:30 p.m. Committee Meetings (Budget, Charter, Policy/Rules)  2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Operations Committee  3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Public Hearing/Committee of the Whole   Thursday  8:00 a.m. - 8:05 a.m. Call to Order  8:05 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Executive Session  9:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Inspiration  10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Recognitions/Strategic Planning*  11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon State Board Meeting   *Strategic Planning and Recognitions will occur in odd and even months, respectively, in the State Board Room.    MORE INFORMATION:   The State Board of Education meeting schedule for 2009 can be found by clicking here:  http://tinyurl.com/StateBoardMeetings2009     The agenda for each month's State Board of Education meeting can be found on the eBoard site by clicking here:  https://eboard.eboardsolutions.com/Index.aspx?S=1262
