Important notice to all Atlanta Public Schools students and families

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL ATLANTA PUBLIC SCHOOLS STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES:

In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), please be advised that a subpoena issued by the Fulton County District Attorney in case 13-SC-117954 requests student records for some Atlanta Public Schools students from 2008, 2009, and 2010.

If you are a parent of a child who took the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) while enrolled in Atlanta Public Schools in 2008, 2009, or 2010, this notice may apply to you.  Please read it carefully.

The Fulton County District Attorney has issued a subpoena for student records, with which the Georgia Department of Education legally must comply. The records subject to this subpoena may include educational information, students’ CRCT answer sheets and test booklets. This information will be available to the District Attorney and to defense attorneys, unless an objection is filed with the Court.

Please be aware that the Georgia Department of Education, Atlanta Public Schools and the Fulton County Courts take you and your child’s privacy very seriously, and the information  received will be used only in a manner allowed by law.  To that end, the Court has issued a protective order to ensure student-level information remains confidential. Please visit this link for more detailed information, or contact Johnna Griffin at the Fulton County District Attorney’s office: (404) 612-4981 or Johnna.Griffin@fultoncountyga.gov.
