March 30, 2015
– The Georgia Department of Education will join other states and organizations across the country in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child – a time to honor the strength and sacrifices of military children. State School Superintendent Richard Woods is asking that each district designate a day or week to wear purple and honor the children of military families in Georgia’s public schools.

“I encourage every Georgia district to designate a time to honor our military students,” Superintendent Woods said. “We owe our freedom to the sacrifices of their families. As a former military child myself, I commend these students for their commitment to education in the face of many challenges and transitions, and I assure them we will always work hard to provide the support they need.”
