Description of Duties:Provides a comprehensive educational of instruction to students who are hearing impaired. Responsibilities include assessing and documenting students' communication skills, functional reading/math skills, independent living skills, and educational/behavioral development; identifying appropriate individualized educational goals; developing and implementing instructional lesson plans; maintaining documentation of student progress; and utilizing appropriate instructional techniques based on individual student needs.
Minimum Qualifications:Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the area of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. Intermediate Plus as measured by the SLPI, with the commitment to achieve Advanced within two years, is the minimum sign level.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following: • Possesses or is eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the of "Interrelated Special Education" or "Learning Disabilities" • Three years of experience teaching students with hearing impairments • Sign language proficiency at the "Advanced Level" as measured by the Sign Communication Instrument
Salary/Benefits:Paid on the Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule based on teaching certification and creditable years of experience. Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Teachers' Retirement or Employees' Retirement.
