Job Title:Accountant, Professional (Level 1, 2, or 3)

Description of Duties:
Under general supervision and according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), performs professional accounting duties, such as recording financial transactions, preparing accounting reports, and providing information to auditors and other third parties.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, analyzing accounting data and transactions to ensure accuracy; analyzing, recording, and interpreting financial transactions;  reviewing, maintaining, and analyzing information from petty cash and trust fund accounts to ensure compliance with administrative procedures;  performing operational analysis of accounting system(s);  auditing financial documentation such as employee expense statements, travel advances, and registration payments; balancing and processing monthly and quarterly payments;  performing accounts payable, salary, and/or  travel reconciliations;  preparing specialized and standard accounting reports and providing information to auditors and other third parties; making General Ledger adjustments;  providing input into policies and procedures and/or developing and maintaining budget and financial records for a section or unit; analyzing and reconciling accounting data and transactions that requires knowledge of complex rules and regulations and use of research and/or problem-solving skills; performing operational analyses of accounting systems, subsystems, and procedures to ensure accuracy of data, to ensure compliance with GAAP, and to identify improvements in the methods for recording, maintaining, and reporting financial transactions; responding to inquiries for resolution of accounting problems or for information or interpretation from third parties such as banks, auditors, vendors and governmental entities; and notifying appropriate personnel of pending audit actions.  May have lead worker responsibility.   Note: Positions will be filled at Level 1, 2, or 3 based on business need and selected candidates’ qualifications. 
Minimum Qualifications:
Accountant 1, Professional:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from an accredited college or university OR completion of Bachelor’s Degree in a business curriculum which included the completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence.
Accountant 2, Professional:
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university and one year of professional accounting or professional financial/accounting auditing experience OR completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence and one year of professional accounting experience OR completion of a Master’s Degree in Accounting. 
Accountant 3, Professional:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and two years of professional accounting experience OR Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence and three years of professional accounting experience OR Completion of a Master’s degree in accounting and one year of professional accounting experience. 
Note: Positions will be filled as Level 1, 2, or 3 based on business need and selected candidates’ qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Experience in governmental accounting
• Completion of the State Financial Management Certificate Program
• Experience utilizing PeopleSoft Accounting modules
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)
• Strong organizational skills

Salary/Benefits:
Accountant 1: Pay grade 12 – Annual salary range $26,672.14 (minimum) to $46,816.96 (maximum). Accountant 2:  Pay grade 14 – Annual salary range $32,418.30 (minimum) to $56,724.24 (maximum).  Accountant 3: Pay grade 15 – Annual salary range $35,569.36 (minimum) to $62,301.82 (maximum).   Hiring salary is based on current employment, relevant education/training, previous work experience, and available funding.  Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave, and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers’ Retirement.
