Description of Duties:
Provides a comprehensive educational program to meet the needs of students who are both visually impaired and hearing impaired. These students have the special education eligibility of deaf/blind.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to,: assessing and documenting the educational needs of students who are deaf/blind; developing and implementing appropriate instructional plans for students that are deaf/blind that address students’ Individual Educational Program (IEP) goals; developing appropriate instructional materials for students who are deaf/blind; and utilizing acceptable and innovative instructional techniques and practices to educate students who are deaf/blind.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possess or be eligible to obtain a Georgia teacher certificate in special education adapted curriculum consultative and special education deaf-blind;
• Have a working knowledge of using alternative/augmentative communication (A/AC) with deaf-blind students;
• Have a working understanding of the use of computer technology for deaf-blind students; and
• Have a sign language proficiency level of Intermediate as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Instrument
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in visual impairments (K-12) and deaf education (K-12) or master’s degree in deaf-blindness (K-12)
• Graduate degree in deaf-blindness by an institute of higher learning
• One or more years of experience in working with students who are visually impaired, blind, deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind
Salary based on years of experience and certification. This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis. Salary will be based on the number of days worked. Benefit options include life, disability, dental, vision, and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers Retirement.
