Every year the state of Georgia recognizes the month of November as Parent Engagement Month, and schools across the state highlight the role parents play in a student’s education. Additionally, the third Thursday in November is National Parent Involvement Day. This is a day for all parents to consider how they can get more involved in the education of their children.
Play a Role” Campaign
To recognize Parent Engagement Month this year, the Georgia Department of Education is launching the "I CAN Play a Role" Campaign for Title I schools and parents to renew their commitment to work together and improve the learning opportunities for students at school and home. The campaign is an engaging way for everyone to come together around the common purpose of improving student achievement.
To participate in the campaign and to support their child's school, parents can take the pledge by selecting from 15 different "I CAN Play a Role" pledge cards. These pledge cards provide schools and community groups with various ideas to encourage parent engagement. At the end of the month, schools and community organizations should report their total number of parent pledge cards received to the GaDOE. Our goal is to reach 50,000 total parent pledge cards to impact family engagement and student achievement in Georgia!
Addditionally, the Georgia Department of Education provides Get the facts…get connected…GET INVOLVED! resources for parents and schools to encourage parent engagement. Each year, we release an updated Parent Engagement Month calendar that provides specific activities for parents to do with their children at home each day in November to support learning and academic achievement. While we encourage parents to use these materials particularly during Parent Engagement Month, parents can also utilize them to engage in meaningful conversations and positive interactions with their children throughout the year.
Every student in Georgia should have a strong support system that values and encourages educational achievement and there is no one who can support this effort better than parents. All of the information you need is right here to start celebrating Parent Engagement Month at your schools with your families!
