The Excellence Recognitions Unit honors outstanding schools and educators at annual awards banquets and events. School awards include the Georgia Schools of Excellence, Title I Distinguished Schools, National Blue Ribbon Schools, and the Superintendent’s Distinguished Achievement Awards. Educator awards include Georgia Teacher of the Year and the Milken National Educator Award.

The Excellence Recognition Unit also coordinates awards given by the State Board of Education to educators and students who have achieved excellence in specific content areas.
