Accel Program

Postsecondary Options (PSO) has been replaced by the Accel Program, a program funded by the Lottery and administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. Please note the following about the Accel Program:

Accel Program

  • Effective Fall term 2004, students who are receiving dual credit for high school courses and college degree-level courses from an eligible public or private college in Georgia will be eligible for the Accel program.
  • Public or private HOPE-eligible high schools and postsecondary institutions are eligible to participate in this program.
  • A high school student must be classified as an 11th or 12th grader to participate.
  • Eligible high school courses include only core-curriculum courses of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language that can be used to satisfy the core-curriculum high school graduation requirements.
  • All hours paid for by Accel Program will be included in the 127 semester or 190 quarter-hour HOPE credit hour cap. College degree-level credit hours that students earned while in high school prior to Fall 2004 will not count towards the cap.
  • The Accel Program award for public colleges and universities will cover tuition, HOPE-approved mandatory fees (which are capped at FY 2004 levels), and a book allowance.
  • The Accel Program award for private colleges and universities will be prorated based on an award of $3,000 per academic year. The rate per credit hour is $125 per semester hour or $84 per quarter hour.
  • The Postsecondary Options (PSO) program, administered by the Georgia Department of Education has been eliminated.
  • The regulations for Accel Program were approved at the May 18th GSFC Board Meeting.
