On behalf of the Health and Physical Education Division, I would like to welcome you to our webpage.

The new Georgia Performance Standards were unanimously approved by the State Board of Education during their June, 2009, meeting. These Standards will replace the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) and can be found on the georgiastandards.org website. Statewide training will be scheduled during the 2009-2010 school year with full implementation during the 2010-2011 school year.

The new Georgia Performance Standards for Health Education are currently being written and will replace the Health Quality Core Curriculum (QCC).

Governor Perdue signed HB 229 (Student Health and Physical Education Act) April 28, 2009. Part of this act requires all students enrolled in a physical education course in grades one to 12 to have an annual fitness assessment beginning during the 2011-2012 school year. The fitness assessment and data collection procedures will be the responsibility of the Department of Education. A Fitness Assessment Committee has been created to help determine the methods to be used.
