About the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation

The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., supports research, publications, and action projects of national significance in elementary/secondary education reform, as well as significant education reform projects in Dayton, Ohio and vicinity. It has assumed the work of the Educational Excellence Network.

The Foundation is affiliated with The Thomas B. Fordham Institute. The Foundation funds its work primarily from its own endowment; the Institute has a separate 501[c]3 designation and raises outside funds to support some of its work.

About the Georgia Performance Standards

Under the direction of the State Superintendent, teams of teachers, content experts and academics rewrote Georgia's old curriculum into a set of clear, rigorous standards. The Georgia Performance Standards are being rolled out in phases over several years. This past school year, students were taught using the new standards in English (all grades), Science (grades 6 and 7, 9-12) and Math (grade 6).

Teachers in grades 6-12 will be trained on the Georgia Performance Standards in World History beginning next school year. The new standards will be introduced to grade 6-12 students in 2007-2008.
