This important week is recognized on the calendar each year to thank teachers across the country and recognize them for the profound impact they have on our future generation.     In honor of this special week, Superintendent Kathy Cox hosted her Teacher Advisory Committee yesterday. This group of 35 teachers from across the state meets with Superintendent Cox four times throughout the year to share ideas and best practices. The Georgia Department of Education also recognizes excellent teachers through the Georgia Teacher of the Year program, Milken Educator Awards and the State Board of Education Recognitions Program.     Recruiting and retaining high quality teachers is one of the top goals of the Georgia Department of Education and the State Board of Education, as well as the Alliance of Education Agency Heads.     "Teachers are the driving force behind increasing student achievement and we are focused like never before on bringing more teachers to Georgia and keeping the great ones we already have," Superintendent Cox said.    MORE INFORMATION   - Teacher Appreciation Week -   - Teacher Advisory Committee -   - GaDOE Strategic Plan -   - Alliance of Education Agency Heads -   - Teacher Recognition Programs -
