GaDOE Launches Stimulus Website

 MEDIA CONTACT : GaDOE Communications office, (404) 463-1487,    - Follow us on  Twitter @GaDOEnews       May 1, 2009 -- The Georgia Department of Education has launched a federal Stimulus website that will provide information and resources to our schools and the general public.     The website can be accessed from the Department's homepage, , or directly at .      "The purpose of this site is to provide our school leaders, policymakers and the public with the information they need about the federal stimulus funds going to K-12 education in Georgia," said State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox. "As a state, we are committed to using these funds effectively and in full accordance with federal laws and regulations. We are also committed to being transparent with the public about how the money is being spent."     The website includes or will include, when available, the following content:     - Guidance and documentation that local school districts need in order to receive, spend and report the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment (ARRA) funds     - Federal and state reports about the expenditure of ARRA funds     - Links to other ARRA websites and resources     The site will be updated frequently as new information and reports become available.     On April 28, the State Board of Education allocated more than $660 million in stimulus funds to local school districts. These funds were additional money for Title I (economically-disadvantaged students) and IDEA (special education) grants. Overall, K-12 education in Georgia is expected to receive more than $1.5 billion in stimulus funds.
