MEDIA CONTACT: GaDOE Communications office, (404) 463-1487,  dtofig@gadoe.org      May 1, 2009 -- State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox released the following statement about the decision of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to recommend that the Clayton County School District's accreditation be restored:    "Congratulations to the Clayton County School Board and staff for making sufficient progress on the SACS mandates that the commission is recommending accreditation be restored to the district. This is especially good news for the citizens, students and teachers in Clayton County. I know that reaching this point took a lot of collaboration and focus and that hard work must carry on if the district is going to continue to improve its governance and operations. We stand ready to help in whatever way we are able."
