April 12, 2017 – Georgia students can now use their Georgia Milestones ELA scores in lieu of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG)’s ACCUPLACER ELA requirements – further streamlining and reducing duplicative testing.

TCSG’s President’s Council approved the use of Milestones ELA scores based on a study conducted in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education, exploring the feasibility of using Milestones EOC scores to establish eligibility for college coursework.

“I believe excessive testing severely limits our students’ ability to learn,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “This collaborative effort between the Georgia Department of Education and the Technical College System of Georgia further streamlines our testing system, reducing the number of tests students have to take. We are continuing to explore every possible avenue to minimize the burden of testing on our students and teachers.”

Students who score at or above the Proficient Learner level on the Georgia Milestones assessment in ELA will be able to use that score in place of an ACCUPLACER ELA score. TCSG institutions will begin accepting Georgia Milestones ELA scores beginning with the Summer 2017 term.
