Wear purple and celebrate April as Month of the Military Child with GaDOE

April 6, 2018 – The Georgia Department of Education celebrates April as the Month of the Military Child along with other national organizations– it’s a time to honor the strength and sacrifices of military children.

On April 26, State School Superintendent Richard Woods suggests that each district have their faculty, staff, and students wear purple to honor and show support for the children of military families in Georgia’s public schools.

“Being part of a military family is a lifestyle full of transition and sacrifice and one that we don’t take for granted,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “As the child of a military family myself, I want to express solidarity, as well as my gratitude and respect to the 30,000 Georgia military students. I see the dedication and resilience it takes for military children to work hard in school. We at the Georgia Department of Education remain committed to providing the support our military students and families need.”

Schools and districts can share photos and updates from their Month of the Military Child recognitions using the hashtag #GAMilitaryChildMonth, or send them via email to social@doe.k12.ga.us.
