FAQs for Teachers & Qualifying Staff Members

Who is included in these grants? How was the eligible list of employees determined?
These grants will be provided to all full-time, public-school teachers and paraprofessionals who work to provide instructional and supportive services directly to students with special needs on a daily basis. Students with special needs were impacted greatly by the pandemic; these funds will help teachers and paraprofessionals purchase more materials to support academic needs for students with special needs. It will amount to $200 for each eligible faculty member to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used for age-appropriate, educational purposes that support the learning, growth, or development of students with disabilities. Such allowable educational purposes are to enhance classroom materials, address learning loss, mitigate the spread of COVID-19, or benefit the education of students with special needs.

For any employees not eligible for this funding stream, please know that as a top priority of Governor Kemp's administration and GaDOE, we will continue to seek additional opportunities to support our educators and educational staff where able.

How should the grant funds be spent?
The funds can be spent to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used for age-appropriate, educational purposes that support the learning, growth, or development of students with special needs. Such allowable educational purposes are to enhance classroom materials, address learning loss, mitigate the spread of COVID-19, or benefit the education of students with special needs. This is in line with federal guidance.

What happens if funds are misused?
The funds that are spent can be audited. Each expense is documented in the ClassWallet system. The school employee may be required to repay any or all of the grant funds received if the funds are not used for the appropriate purpose. All grant recipients will be required to sign the Affirmation of Allowable Uses below:

“I hereby affirm that all materials, supplies, or other items purchased through the ecommerce marketplace with this $125 grant (hereinafter the “Grant Funds") will be used to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used for age-appropriate, educational purposes that support the learning, growth, or development of students. Such allowable educational purposes are to enhance classroom materials, address learning loss, mitigate the spread of COVID-19, or benefit the education of students. I affirm that I am a full-time employee of a local education agency, as defined in O.C.G.A § 20-2-167.1. I hereby acknowledge that receipt of these funds is conditional upon my acceptance of these terms. I further acknowledge that these funds can be audited and that I may be required to repay any or all of the Grant Funds if the Grant Funds are not used for the allowable uses set forth herein."
