Application Process

To apply to the Georgia Department of Education an applicant should review the advertised job postings and apply for the position(s) that best fit their employment history and qualifications.

Position announcements are subject to close at any time, once a suitable list of applicants has been compiled.  Please be sure to read the minimum qualifications posted for each position. Some of the education-specific positions require Georgia professional educator’s certification. Official documentation of certification is required with the application/resume. Description of Duties:

Under limited supervision by the principal or principal’s designee, duties include but are not limited to: planning, implementing, and facilitating the delivery of school-based guidance and counseling services to students with a vision impairment that may have additional disabilities; conducting individual and small group counseling sessions in accordance with established schedules and Individualized Educational Program (IEP) goals in the areas of academic improvement, peer relationships, and coping skills; coordinating the school’s Character Education Program; serving as the school’s testing coordinator; assisting teachers with interpreting student assessment data in order to plan differentiated instruction; creating/assigning class schedules for students in accordance with high school graduation rules; coordinating graduation/transition plans for students; providing technical assistance to local school systems; serving on faculty committees; tracking graduates’ postsecondary outcomes; providing data as requested in a timely manner; and working additional hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Submit a copy of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) professional educator certification.  Applicants who fail to submit the required documentation will not be considered.
Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification in school counseling, visual impairments and/or other special education fields
  • Three years of counseling experience
  • Experience working with students that are visually impaired or have other special needs
  • Experience working with students in a school and/or residential setting
Essential Job Functions:
Salary/Benefits: Salary is based on years of experience, certification, and number of days worked.  This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis.  Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ or Teachers’ Retirement.
