Description of Duties:

Under general supervision and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), performs professional accounting duties such as preparation of financial statements and various accounting reports, and providing information to auditors and third parties. 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Researching and documenting accounting procedures and policies which integrate GAAP, Governmental Auditing Standards, statutory accounting and fiscal requirements applicable to local educational agencies

·         Reviewing audit reports and following up on corrective action plans, identifying improvements in the methods for recording, maintaining, and reporting financial and budgetary data of local education agencies

·         Assistance with transparency reporting

·         Assisting Accounting Manager with federal reporting requirements

·         Providing professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial issues, including the accounting of consolidated funds, affecting local educational agencies

·         Providing ad-hoc research and analysis for management, as well as, providing analysis of key federal reporting data

·         Analyzing accounting data and transactions to ensure accuracy, analyzing, recording and interpreting financial transactions

·         Preparing specialize and standard accounting reports and providing information to internal and external third parties


Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Two years of professional accounting experience OR Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Three years of professional accounting experience OR Bachelor's degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence from an accredited college or university AND Four years of professional accounting experience. Note: Some positions may require certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

·         Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of accounting experience OR completion of a bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence and three (3) years of accounting experience OR completion of a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience working directly in a local education agency’s finance department. 

·         Must have a good working knowledge of interpreting, creating, and managing spreadsheet applications

·         Experience with financial statements

·         Experience with K-12/local school system accounting

·         Experience in governmental accounting and auditing

·         Experience with the PC Genesis school district accounting software

Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint) with emphasis on Excel
Essential Job Functions: Providing guidance to school district finance personnel on accounting records and state/federal financial/accounting compliance, assisting with the financial data collections and compiling the information for various external reporting, review of corrective action plans, providing guidance related to consolidated funds accounting, and any other job duties considered necessary based on changes in state/federal financial/accounting requirements.
Salary/Benefits: Pay grade L – Annual salary range is $40,982 (minimum) to $71,720 (maximum). Hiring salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training and work experience.  Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave, and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers’ Retirement.
