Job Title:Family Engagement Specialist

Description of Duties:

Under general to limited supervision, coordinates and supports the development and implementation of statewide Title I Parent and Family Engagement initiatives to ensure compliance with the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as the liaison between the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and local educational agencies working to build the capacity of school staff and family members to improve student academic achievement and working across unit and divisions to coordinate statewide family engagement activities
  • Serving on a cross-functional monitoring team to review local educational agency (LEA) parent and family engagement compliance documentation
  • Developing and implementing tools and guidance to assist LEAs with parent and family engagement compliance and strategies
  • Providing technical assistance to local school system personnel; developing and conducting professional learning/staff development activities, meetings, and conferences; developing content for family engagement online and printed resources
  • Developing and implementing family engagement communication initiatives; maintaining and applying current knowledge and professional expertise in family engagement strategies; and working collaboratively with the Family-School Partnership Program Manager on various projects and initiatives
  • This position involves statewide travel and the ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

 Note: This is a field-based position that will support Title I LEAs and schools in South Georgia.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of experience related to area of assignment. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

·         Bachelor’s degree or higher in education

·         Hold or be eligible for Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) educator's certification

·         Working knowledge of parent and family engagement requirements of ESEA/ESSA as well as family engagement research and literature

·         Working knowledge of / experience with the Family-School Partnership Program initiatives such as Family Friendly Partnership Schools, Family Engagement Month events, and the Academic Parent-Teacher Team program

·         Experience developing and presenting professional training/learning, virtually and in-person, for large audiences

·         Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills

·         Excellent technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign), social media, online courses, and platforms such as MS Teams, GoTo Meeting, and webinars

·         Experience working with adult learners

·         Experience implementing the Academic Parent-Teacher Team (APTT) model of family engagement

·         Experience working with Title I federally-funded school districts and schools in Georgia

·         Excellent written communication skills

·         Excellent organizational skills in coordinating statewide initiatives and events

·         Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with school personnel, staff, parents, community-based organizations, and other support agencies

·         Demonstrated competency in self-motivation, initiative, time management, and work accountability

·         Demonstrated competency in working independently from a non-traditional work environment (i.e., working from home and on-site at LEAs)

·         Fully bilingual in English and Spanish

Essential Job Functions:
Salary/Benefits: Pay grade L – Annual salary range $40,982.94 (minimum) to $71,720.15 (maximum).  Hiring salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training and work experience.  Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave, and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers’ Retirement.
