What is it?

Georgia's First Regional Computer Science Summit: CompSci CON is a  FREE one-day summit that will immerse the students, teachers, and administrators into the world of computer science. This will be held in the Columbus area. The summit will have three parts: District Training for District Teams, an Interactive Student Experience for invited computer science students, and and Expo.

District Training

This workshop will address the challenges and successful practices for implementing Computer Science as a new K-12 discipline. You will walk away with an actionable plan for implementing CS in your schools, strategies for building CS teacher capacity, and a district CS plan aligned to standards and legislation.

District teams will be responsible for implementing this new and exciting discipline in K-12. A team consists of 4-6 members from the following categories:

§  1-2 District Level Coordinators (Superintendents, Asst. Superintendent, CTAE Director, etc)

§  1-2 School Administrator (Principal, Asst. Principal, Instructional Coach, etc.)

§  1-2 Teachers

§  1 Invested Support Personnel (Counselor, Media Specialist, IT staff, etc. )

Student Interactive Experience

9:00 am - 2:30 pm

There will be 5 rotations for student participants that will be focused on 3 conceptual tracks and an expo. The 3 tracks, composed of engaging, hands-on workshops, are:

1.     CS 101: What does it take to become a Computer Scientist?

2.     How easy is the easy button: What does it take to write a program?

3.     Alexa, your AI family member: How are AI and Robotics are changing our world?
