Medical Insurance A choice of coverage through a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
Dental Insurance Employees can select from three dental plans, Regular, PPO, and Prepaid Dental Plans..
Vision Insurance Employees can select from single or family vision care.
Spending Accounts (Health/Child/Dependent) Helps employees save tax dollars on health related benefits for themselves and their immediate family members.
Retirement The Georgia Department of Education offers Employee Retirement System (ERS) and Teachers Retirement System (TRS) Plans, and Georgia State Employees' Pension and Savings Plan (GSEPS).
Deferred Compensation Plans The Georgia Department of Education provides access to 401(k) Savings, 457, and 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuities Plans for eligible employees in order to assist in planning for their retirement.
   
Sick Leave 
                            
Employees accrue sick leave at 10 hours per month - accruing at 5 hours per pay period. 
Life Insurance and
AD&D Insurance
Employees may elect to purchase additional life insurance for themselves or their dependents. The amount of coverage varies based on annual salary. In conjunction with life insurance, the Georgia Department of Education also provides access to a basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance. As with life insurance, employees may choose to purchase additional coverage.
Short Term and Long Term Disability Insurance The Georgia Department of Education provides access to purchase short-term and long-term disability coverage for all eligible employees.
Paid Time Off (PTO) Employees accrue paid time off (annual leave) starting with 10 hours per month, 12 hours per month after 5 years, up to 14 hours per month after 10 years. Annual leave begins accruing at 5 hours per pay period, for a total of 10 hours per month. 
Holidays The Georgia Department of Education offers twelve (12) paid holidays a year.
FlexTrans Employees are offered access totransportation, parking, and MARTA benefits.
Employee Discounts A variety of exclusive discounts and discount programs are available to Georgia Department of Education employees through Team Georgia. 

               

Employee Credit Union

Members can join credit unions open to the selected field of membership.   The Georgia United Credit Union has offices in the Floyd Building, and the Southern Credit Union is also open to GaDOE employees for membership.
