August 1, 2016 – State School Superintendent Richard Woods is seeking middle and high school students to serve on his fall 2016 Student Advisory Council. These students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom, along with other issues related to education, and will serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors to their respective schools.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Georgia public middle or high school for the 2016-17 school year. To apply:

•           Send applications by August 16, 2016 at 5 p.m. to Ron Culver at rculver@doe.k12.ga.us.

•           Selected students will be contacted via email. All students can check gadoe.org, under News & Announcements, on August 31 to see if they have been selected.

Middle school students will meet September 12, November 7, February 13, and April 10.

High school students will meet September 13, November 8, February 14, and April 11.

“The decisions we make at the state level impact students every day,” Superintendent Woods said. “As we continue to focus on policies that are child-focused and classroom-centered, it is imperative that we hear directly from students. I look forward to bringing this year’s Student Advisory Council to the table and working with them to create common-sense policies that best meet their educational needs.”
