Description of Duties:
Under general supervision and according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), performs advanced professional accounting duties that require independent judgment and initiative. Specific duties include, but are not limited to,   analyzing, recording, and interpreting financial transactions; preparing specialized and standard accounting reports and providing information to auditors and other third parties;  performing periodic operational analyses of accounting procedures and systems to recommend methods for the improvement of efficiency and operational effectiveness; supervising staff, including direct supervision of the Accountant 1;  providing input into policies and procedures and/or developing and maintaining budget and financial records for a section or unit; analyzing and reconciling accounting data and transactions that require knowledge of complex rules and regulations and use of advanced research and/or problem-solving skills; performing operational analyses of accounting systems, subsystems, and procedures to ensure accuracy of data, to ensure compliance with GAAP, and to identify improvements in the methods for recording, maintaining, and reporting financial transactions; responding to inquiries for resolution of difficult accounting problems or for information or interpretation from third parties such as banks, auditors, vendors and governmental entities; notifying appropriate personnel of pending audit actions; developing goals and objectives for assigned responsibility area; assisting in the development and/or revision of policies and procedures;  administering policies and procedures for assigned area(s);  developing, monitoring, and maintaining budget and/or financial records for the School Nutrition Division; creating and  maintaining a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation; managing inventory; guiding and advising accounting subordinates in procedural processes in areas of responsibilities; informing subordinates of procedural changes and assisting in problem resolution; and maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and applying relevant new knowledge to performance of responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and two years of professional accounting experience OR Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence and three years of professional accounting experience OR Completion of a Master’s degree in accounting and one year of professional accounting experience. 
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one
or more of the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Experience in governmental accounting
• Experience in K-12 School Nutrition programs
• Participation in the State Financial Management Certificate Program
• Experience utilizing PeopleSoft Accounting modules
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)
• Strong organizational skills
Pay grade 15 – Annual salary range $35,569.36 (minimum) to $62,301.82 (maximum).  Hiring salary is based on current employment, relevant education/training, previous work experience, and available funding.  Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave, and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers’ Retirement.
