 Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)

Educational Interpreters are now required to hold an Educational Interpreter License through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) provides a route toward obtaining this license.

The EIPA is a tool that evaluates the voice-to-sign and sign-to voice skills of interpreters who work in the elementary through secondary classroom using videotape stimulus materials and a procedure that includes a comprehensive rating system. The EIPA is managed by the EIPA Diagnostic Center housed at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

How to obtain the Educational Interpreter License

Interpreters Employed with a School System

Educational Interpreters employed with a school system must submit the following information to their employing system for processing.

Application for Certification – An application is required for all transactions submitted to GaPSC for processing.  Interpreters must complete the 3-page application in its entirety.  On page 1 in the Transaction(s) Requested section (#3), interpreters must select the Clear Renewable Certificate option.   At the bottom of the Transaction(s) Requested section (#3) in the Fields for Above Transactions section, interpreters must write in “Educational Interpreter License” on the blank line to specify the field for certification.  The Application for Certification is available for download on our website at http://www.gapsc.com/Certification/FormsAndApplications.aspx.
