According to Elementary Secondary Education Act legislation
and US-ED Program Guidance, the primary goal of the Ed Tech program is to
improve student academic achievement through the use of technology. It is also
designed to assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that
every student is technologically literate by the end of eighth grade, and to
encourage the effective integration of technology with teacher training and
curriculum development to establish successful research-based instructional
methods. The FY11 Title IID Competitive grant titled Integrating the National
Educational Technology Standards (NETS-S) to Prepare College and Career Ready
Students will specifically address the need to integrate rigorous technology
standards into the K-8 Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and the Common Core
Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS), thus providing an effective curriculum to
improve student mastery of 21st century skills.
The primary goals of the
Integrating the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS-S) to Prepare
College and Career Ready Students competitive grant are to:
Utilize results of the 21st century skills assessment to increase student
mastery of the NETS-S.
Create elementary and middle school self-funding models to provide students
with access to hardware (including netbooks) and digital learning materials that
enable college and career readiness.
Implement the K-8 scope and sequence for integrating the NETS-S into the
Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and the Common Core GPS (CCGPS). This
integration should include vertical articulation with high school teachers to
prepare college and career ready students.
Review, refine, and create NETS-S integrated, GPS/CCGPS based resources that
will be custom delivered to teachers’ desktops through the State Longitudinal
Data System’s (SLDS) teacher landing page.
