TRANSCRIPT:

As I begin my term as Georgia’s State School Superintendent, I understand that we face many challenges, but with great challenge comes great opportunity.

There are no greater opportunities than improving outcomes and expanding future options for Georgia’s 1.7 million public school students, and the more than 100,000 teachers in our classrooms.

To achieve this, we must strengthen relationships with the Governor’s office, the State Board of Education, the General Assembly, educators, parents, students, business leaders, and all other stakeholders across the state.

These relationships are crucial to moving education forward in Georgia for the betterment of our students and teaching professionals.

I am committed to the task.

I am also committed to conducting a series of Teacher Focus Groups and Community Town Hall events across the state to listen to the concerns and ideas of our students, parents, and teachers, as we restore and strengthen the buy-in and faith in our public education system.

Only then can we realize the full potential of our great state.

Thank you. I’m Richard Woods, Georgia’s State School Superintendent.
