2021-2022 Student Advisory Council
Click here for the list of 2021-2022 Student Advisory Council members – congratulations to these students! Please note that we typically receive hundreds more applications than we are able to accept, and not being selected does not mean a student's application was not strong.
Members have been contacted directly via email – if you see your name on this list and you did not receive an email, please contact students@doe.k12.ga.us.
Deadline & Instructions
Applications must be submitted by September 1, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. Selected students will be contacted via email. All students may visit gadoe.org/studentadvisory on September 17, 2021 to see whether they have been accepted. Please note that we typically receive hundreds more applications than we are able to accept, and not being selected for the Student Advisory Council does not mean the student's application was not strong.
Eligible Students
This year’s application was due September 1, 2021 and selected students were announced September 17. All students in grades 10-12 were eligible to apply. Four students in each RESA district were selected to serve on the Student Advisory Council.
Meetings
The 2021-2022 Student Advisory Council will meet four times, on the following dates. The mode for each meeting (in-person or virtual) is noted. All in-person meetings will take place at the Georgia Department of Education's offices in Downtown Atlanta. For Student Advisory Council members who live 50+ miles away from GaDOE's offices, overnight lodging will be provided.
October 19, 2021 – IN PERSON
December 1 OR 2, 2021 – VIRTUAL (students will be assigned a meeting date upon selection)
January 26 2022 – IN PERSON
March 10, 2022 – IN PERSON
Because students who participated in the 2020-2021 Student Advisory Council only had the opportunity to attend virtual meetings, Superintendent Woods will also host two in-person meetings specifically for members of that council who are still enrolled in high school. These students have also been contacted directly.

About the Student Advisory Council
The State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council is a group of students in grades 9-12 who discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Georgia. Members meet throughout the school year with State Superintendent Woods and are advisors who act as liaisons between the Department of Education and the students of Georgia.
Students may apply for the advisory council at the beginning of each school year by obtaining an application from their school or from this website. Members are chosen by a committee of Georgia Department of Education representatives based on the applicant's response to questions.
