Deadline

Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.​

Eligibility

​All students in grades 9-12 are eligible to apply. Given the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year two high school students per RESA district will be selected to serve on the Student Advisory Council. Please note that we are seeking a range of students with diverse perspectives. Questions such as GPA are included to ensure we are receiving feedback from all students, not just those with the highest grades.

Please note: A nomination from a school official is NOT necessary to apply.

Selection & Notification

​Selected students will be contacted via email. All students may visit this webpage on October 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. to see whether they have been accepted. Please note that we typically receive hundreds more applications than we are able to accept, and not being selected for the Student Advisory Council does not mean the student's application was not strong.

Meetings

The first Student Advisory Council meeting will be held virtually on November 5, 2020. If in-person meetings are held in the spring, they will take place in Atlanta at GaDOE's headquarters or in Covington at the FFA/FCCLA Camp. For Student Advisory Council members who live 50+ miles from any in-person location selected, overnight lodging will be provided.


About the Student Advisory Council

The State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council is a group of students in grades 9-12 who discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Georgia. Members meet throughout the school year with State Superintendent Woods and are advisors who act as liaisons between the Department of Education and the students of Georgia. 

Students may apply for the advisory council at the beginning of each school year by obtaining an application from their school or from this website. Members are chosen by a committee of Georgia Department of Education representatives based on the applicant’s response to questions.
