April 1,
2016 – The Georgia
Department of Education will join other states and organizations across the
country in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child – a time to
honor the strength and sacrifices of military children. State School
Superintendent Richard Woods is asking that each district designate a day or
week to wear purple and honor the children of military families in Georgia’s
public schools.
“It is so
important that we take the time to honor our students of military families – we
owe our freedom to the sacrifices of these families,” Superintendent Woods
said. “As a military child myself, I want to express my gratitude and respect
to these students and their families. It takes dedication and resolve to keep
working hard in school in the midst of the challenges and transitions of
military life, and I am committed to providing the support our military
students and families need.”
Schools and
districts can share photos and updates from their Month of the Military Child
recognitions using the hashtag #monthofthemilitarychildGA.
