Reimbursement for Special Education Services


​​​The Families with Special Needs Reimbursement application has closed. If you submitted an application, you may use the “check status" link to track updates. Based on the volume of applications and inquiries, the State will process each application as quickly as possible. You may use the check status feature to track any updates. Special Education Reimbursement Status (gadoe.org).

After your application has been reviewed, you will receive a confirmation email regarding if your application has been approved or denied. If your application is approved, you will receive a welcome email from ClassWallet within 10 business days of the approval. The Georgia Department of Education is contracting with ClassWallet to disperse the payments. ClassWallet's process requires that the parent has a banking account in his/her name to allow for a direct deposit or ACH payment. 

Once the parent receives ClassWallet's welcome email, you must complete the bulleted tasks below. If you do not complete these task, the delay will impact your reimbursement timeline. The parent can expect the direct deposit payment within 2 – 4 weeks of receiving ClassWallet's email that you have successfully completed the following steps. 

  • Establish your ClassWallet account “First Time Login"
  • Verify your account
  • Link your bank account
  • Verify your bank account
  • Upload the GaDOE approval notice with your request 

If the parent's application is approved and he/she does not have a banking account for a direct deposit, then GaDOE will process a paper check for the reimbursement, which will require 4 - 6 weeks. Questions or requests can be emailed to spedreimbursement@doe.k12.ga.us.​
