 Professional Development

Master Teacher PDNow! Network for Online Professional Development

At the Georgia Department of Education - Migrant Education Program, we are committed to providing migrant personnel with all the professional tools they need to succeed in providing migrant children and youth the best quality of supplemental services possible.

Various options are available to support districts providing professional development to staff (certified and non-certified) working in academic supplemental settings with migratory children and youth.

PDNow!

The PDNow! Network is an online platform which provides a wide variety of online courses that give paraprofessionals the specific training they need—with strategies they can apply immediately.  Access is provided to MEP funded staff by the Georgia Department of Education.  New migrant staff will take a series of 10 courses to build a framework of support and instruction.  Returning staff may complete additional courses as determined by instructional strategy needs.  See your Resource Specialist for additional information and access.

Building a Culture of Writing

The GaDOE ELA team will launch a seven-month literacy series entitled Collaborative Conversations for Building a Culture of Writing.  This interactive online series is designed to build teachers’ capacity for writing instruction while cultivating a culture of writing.  Teachers in grades K – 5 and 6 – 12 will work through seven uniquely designed sessions, where researchers and classroom teachers share evidence-based writing practices and show what those practices look like in a real classroom.  By connecting theory to practice, this series will answer questions about writing instruction, engage teachers in professional growth, impact instructional practice, and ultimately, cultivate a culture of writing.

The series begins September 2016 and is offered in three tiers for teachers, schools, districts, and RESAs to customize the professional learning to meet their unique needs. To start the registration process, complete the linked form. Once you submit the form, you will be added to our mailing list and will receive periodic reminders about the series.
